董继宁，1955年10月生于湖北咸宁。1977年毕业于湖北美术学院。现任湖北省美术院院长、教授、博士生导师，中国美术家协会理事，中国画学会常务理事，湖北省美术家协会副主席，武汉理工大学特聘教授，武汉纺织大学特聘教授，湖北省国际文化交流中心理事，湖北省对外交流协会理事。获湖北省有突出贡献的中青年专家、湖北省文化名人、文化部优秀专家荣誉称号，享受国务院专家津贴。湖北省五一劳动奖章获得者、全国艺德标兵、湖北省第十二届人大代表、全国人大教科文卫委员会委员。
